How do I get my doors prepped for glass?

Doors Prepped for Glass

Doors can be ordered as an open frame (no center panel/no grids) or with mullion bars (grids).

Depending on the Stile and Rail profile these frames may come with a clear retainer strip to hold the glass in place. Doors that ship without the retainer strip will need to be held in place in a traditional manner.

For best results measure frame for glass after you receive frame.

Recommended Number of Lites

With mullion doors, our standard number of lites is based on the height of the door.

  • 8" to 19-15/16" high doors have 2 lites vertically.

  • 20" to 31" high doors have 3 lites vertically.

  • 31-15/16" to  42" high doors have 4 lites vertically.

  • 42-15/16" to 53" high doors have 5 lites vertically.

  • 53-15/16" to 60" high doors have 6 lites vertically.

Mullion Bars

Coped end mullions are a standard feature on most of our profiles. The matching profile and depth of the coped end mullion grilles add to the overall look of a mullion frame, especially when using a glazed finish. The grilles come installed.

Mullion bar profiles will complement door frame profiles selected.

Sizing Glass Insert

Tenon frame backs are routed with a 5/16” radius on the inside of the profile. Glass size calculation below configures glass size to ensure square glass inserts will fit.

  • Glass Size equals door size minus (stile/rail width x 2) + (glass overlap x 2)

  • ie: 15" x 30" Door with 2-1/4" frame width

  • 15" - (2 1/4" x 2) + (7/16" x 2) = 11 3/8"

  • 30" - (2 1/4" x 2) + (7/16" x 2) = 26 3/8"

  • Glass size = 11 3/8" x 26 3/8”

Tenon frames may have different sizes of stiles and rails in the same frame (if ordered that way).
