What is Overlay

The overlay is the amount a door or drawer front covers the cabinet frame or sides around the opening.

Face frame cabinetry typically has an overlay of 1/2" or 1 1/4" (Full overlay). This measurement is critical on the hinge side when using euro-style concealed hinges like our Salice Compact Hinge or Blum Compact Hinges. This style of hinges determines where the door is positioned over the opening.

Our standard hinge boring is for cabinet doors installed on face frames and works for Blum compact hinges regardless of overlay measurement.

Typical frameless overlays are partial or full. Consult your frameless compact hinge documentation for overlay options.
